Scope of Work
The A518 Cycle Route Connectivity Scheme was delivered as part of Telford and Wrekin Council’s Cycling and Walking Strategy with contribution funding from the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund Tranche 2. The scheme involved the construction of 2km of a permanent footway/cycleway to support the Council’s Strategy along with improvements to connectivity with the National Cycle Route 55 on the northern outskirts of Telford along the A518.
The scheme involved a number of improvements including the construction of sections of new permanent segregated cycleway adjacent to the A518 Principal Road, widening of the existing footway and the introduction of parking restrictions. Our work on the project involved the following scope of works:
- Site clearance
- Earthworks incorporating the re-use of material for cut and fill
- Excavation, kerbing and edgings
- Full construction consisting of laying geotextile and the installation of Type 1 sub-base and binder and surface course
The original programme for the project was 14 weeks but in order to meet the Council’s aspirations for an early completion we were able to accelerate the works by extending our working shifts and programming the surfacing works to be completed in continuous shifts. This enabled us to complete the project in 10 weeks.
